UNDP Empowers Over 30 MSMEs with Digital Skills to Drive Growth and Sustainability

UNDP equips over 30 MSMEs with essential digital marketing skills to enhance business growth, sustainability, and global market access through its Nimdie Series training program.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has equipped over 30 indigenous Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) with vital digital business skills to foster growth. The initiative was part of the third edition of UNDP’s ‘Nimdie Series,’ an MSME Business Clinic Session, under the theme “Digital Marketing: A Transformative Strategy for MSMEs.”

Participants were trained on the use of digital tools, including social media platforms, to enhance business branding, planning, marketing, advertising, customer engagement, and financial management. Dr. Edward Apratwum, Head of Governance and Inclusive Growth at UNDP, emphasized that this training is part of UNDP’s ongoing commitment to help MSMEs achieve sustainability and scale through digital innovation.

Dr. Apratwum noted that since 2021, UNDP’s research identified gaps in MSMEs’ digital presence, leading to the introduction of regular digital education programs. He expressed optimism that the skills gained by participants would improve their digital entrepreneurship, and announced that training materials would be made available online for MSMEs to access at their convenience.

In collaboration with the Ghana Enterprise Agency, UNDP is working on developing a digital gateway for MSMEs, aimed at helping local businesses access markets, engage with global customers, and participate in e-commerce.

Berima Amoaning Samuel, founder of Flicker Technologies, encouraged MSMEs to capitalize on digital tools to reach a wider audience, improve brand awareness, and build customer communities. He stressed the importance of persistence and consistency in mastering these platforms.

Fashion entrepreneur Alima Bello also urged MSMEs to engage with customers using smartphones and social media, while encouraging the exploration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to innovate business practices.
