Japan Motors is set to boost Ghana’s automotive sector with plans to establish a state-of-the-art spare parts warehouse and an automotive training centre to serve the West African region. The initiative aims to enhance vehicle maintenance services, support skills development, and position Ghana as a key player in regional auto industry growth.
Japan Motors has unveiled plans to establish a central spare parts warehouse and automotive training centre in Ghana, positioning the country as a pivotal hub for the automotive industry in West Africa.
The announcement was made by Salem Kalmoni, Managing Director of Japan Motors, during the opening of the Foton Truck Showroom in Tema. Kalmoni emphasized the company’s ongoing commitment to expanding Ghana’s role in the West African automotive market, particularly through enhancing local capacity and expertise.
“Let me take this opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of Japan Motors and Photon International to building Ghana as the automotive hub of the sub-region,” Kalmoni stated, highlighting the importance of Ghana’s strategic location in the region.
As part of this investment, Japan Motors plans to develop a state-of-the-art spare parts warehouse for West Africa, which will significantly improve the availability of quality automotive parts in the region. The warehouse, located on a seven-acre site behind the showroom, will also serve as a purpose-built workshop to provide better after-sales services and vehicle maintenance.
“In fact, just behind me and behind this showroom is a seven-acre land which we have acquired, and it is designated for the construction of a central spare parts warehouse in West Africa, as well as a purpose-built workshop,” Kalmoni revealed.
In addition to the warehouse, Japan Motors is setting up a West Africa Training Centre in Ghana. This facility will focus on providing technical training and upskilling local professionals, including automotive technicians and engineers, to meet the growing demand for specialized expertise in the automotive sector.
