Ghana’s Finance Minister Appointed Chairman of ECOWAS Investment Bank

Ghana’s Finance Minister has been elected as the new Chairman of the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID), positioning him at the helm of regional efforts to boost economic growth and integration. His appointment is expected to strengthen Ghana’s leadership role in West Africa’s financial landscape and drive impactful investment initiatives across member states

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has been elected Chairman of the Board of Governors of the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID).

The announcement was made during the Bank’s 23rd Annual General Meeting held in Banjul, Gambia. Although Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson was unable to attend in person, his address was delivered on his behalf by the Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem.

In his statement, the Minister expressed deep gratitude to fellow Board members for the confidence placed in him, describing the appointment as a humbling responsibility.

He outlined a four-pillar vision for EBID focused on strengthening resource mobilization, improving capital recovery, expanding non-regional partnerships, and positioning the Bank as West Africa’s leading development finance institution.

He said, while the sub-region faces significant challenges, these also present opportunities for transformation and growth.

Dr. Ato Forson commended EBID President, Dr. George Agyekum Donkor and his team for their commitment to regional development and acknowledged outgoing Chairman Seedy Keita for his impactful leadership.

The Minister of Finance reaffirmed Ghana’s full support for EBID’s mission, calling for unity and renewed dedication to achieving a self-reliant and prosperous West Africa.
