Elon Musk’s Starlink Now Live in Niger, Expanding Reach to 19 African Countries

Elon Musk is pushing the boundaries of digital access in Africa with a bold new move that brings Starlink to Niger. “Starlink is now available in Niger,” Musk announced in a post on his social media platform X.

This development follows a challenging week for Musk, whose microblogging platform X (previously Twitter) was hit by a massive cyber-attack, while Tesla also experienced a series of vandalism and hacking incidents.

Currently, Starlink operates in 19 African countries, including Nigeria, Mozambique, Liberia, Ghana, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Rwanda, South Sudan, Burundi, Benin, Sierra Leone, Malawi, Eswatini, Angola, Chad, Togo, and Tunisia Niger is the latest country to grant Starlink authorization.

According to a SpaceX spokesperson, the launch follows a partnership deal signed with the Nigerien government in November 2024. The spokesperson highlighted that Starlink’s entry is set to transform Niger’s digital environment, with plans to extend service nationwide over the next five years and potentially connect millions to the global digital economy.

“By working with the Nigerien government, we hope to enable a more connected future for the country,” the spokesperson said.

Starlink’s satellite technology, which bypasses traditional ground-based infrastructure, offers a lifeline to regions with restricted internet access, especially in remote and rural communities.
